Teaching is something I’ve loved since a young age. Most recently, I have been tutoring classes in mathematics and computer science. Everyone grasps academic concepts in different ways, so when I mentor students, I myself gain better insight into fundamental concepts. In upper-division classes, where problem sets often contain open-ended problems, I enjoy working on these problems with students and developing strategies on the fly. Here’s a catalog of some of the classes I’ve tutored for:

Current:

  • Academic Excellence (AE): In my junior year, I was nominated and subsequently selected to be a student facilitator for the (AE math program) at Mudd for two years. The program supports all classes in the math core, including calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and discrete math. AE’s purpose is not just to provide a tutoring service, but to help students coming from diverse backgrounds to work towards grasping fundamental material and useful problem-solving techniques which ideally, help them beyond their problem sets. This is the mindset I usually take when tutoring, so I really love being part of the AE team!
  • Artificial Intelligence (CS 151) – I am currently grading and tutoring the AI course at Mudd, being taught by Prof. Jessica Wu.

Past:

  • Computability and Logic (CS 81) – The first computer science class I tutored at Mudd (as a sophomore), taught by Prof. George Montañez.
  • Discrete Mathematics (Math 55) for MathSpot, Scripps – As a sophomore, I was nominated for a tutoring position at Scripps (a fellow member college of the Claremont Consortium that Mudd is part of) to conduct individual mentoring sessions for students in this class. Teaching one-on-one is quite different from group tutoring, so I liked being able to practice both kinds.
  • Music Mentors of Pomona Valley – During my freshman and sophomore years in college, I volunteered for a music mentoring program) where I was matched with local middle-school and high-school students to teach piano for free. I’ve been learning Western classical piano for a long time, but had never taught prior to this experience. It was quite challenging and a great learning experience; meeting local students and getting to enjoy music with other people was really fun.
